Aurum Tennis Academy player’s performance at ITF J60 Accra. The academy sent 3 of its players to the tournament: Ikenna Okonkwo, Mubarak Ganiyu and David Ekpenyong. They competed in both singles and doubles events.
Doubles matches:
In the first round, David and Daniel defeated Akansh Subramanian (IND)./ OM Verma (IND). 6-3, 6-4, Ikenna and Kossi Andre Dogbefu (TOG). defeated Akshaj Subramanian (IND)./Megh Patel Maulik (IND). 7-5, 7-6(2), and Mubarak and Fabian Garvic (NOR). lost to Joseph Franklin Jimoh (NGR)./Felix Roussel (CAN). 6-4, 6-1.
In the second round, David and Daniel seed #3 defeated Venkat Rishi Batlanki (USA)./ Juan Carlos Portilla Morales (USA). 7-5, 6-3, while Ikenna and Kossi lost to Nikola Jovic (SRB)/Debasis Sahoo (IND). Seed #1, 6-7(1), 2-6.
In the quarter finals, David and Daniel lost to #1 seeds Nikola Jovic (SEB) and Debasis Sahoo (IND) 2-6, 6-7(4).
Singles matches:
In the first round, Ikenna defeated Pedro Petroski Rocha (BRA) seed #7, 7-6(7) 4-6, 6-4, Mubarak lost to Hanif Boateng (GHA) 1-6, 6-1, 3-6, and David seed #3 defeated Felix Rossel (CAN) 6-2, 6-0.
In the second round, David defeated Lameck Bagerbaseh (GHA). 6-2, 6-3, while Ikenna lost to Akansh Subramanian (IND). 2-6, 6-7(5).
In the quarter finals, David won an epic three-setter against Christian Gronfeldt - Sorensen from Denmark 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(3).
In the semi finals, David stunned the #1 seed Carel Aubriel Ngounoue (USA) in straight sets.
In the finals, David Ekpeyonge won the ITF J60 Accra with 6:4 6:2 against #2 seed Nikola Jovic (SEB).
